Ms. Musonda is a Zambian environmental expert with over 35 years of experience in forest management, agroforestry, and climate change adaptation. She has worked on policy advice, formulation, analysis, and the development, management, and evaluation of projects focused on sustainable natural resource management. After the Rio Conference shifted approaches to include social and economic factors, she built skills through training in gender mainstreaming, community empowerment, results-based management, strategic planning, and value chains, applying these for 30+ years to complex multi-stakeholder projects. She’s recognized as a resource person who introduced innovative approaches like nature-based solutions, community-based natural resource management, and climate change mainstreaming in Zambia’s environment policies and Nationally Determined Contributions. Until her retirement in September 2021, she frequently acted as Head of Programmes at UNDP, overseeing programme management and staff across all UNDP focal areas. She’s known for strong client relationships, team building, and delivering results, earning respect as an expert in forest management, agroforestry, and climate adaptation.
